One Heart for Women and Children has operated a food pantry since they opened their facilities in 2009. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Stephanie Bowman and her team provided food for 3,000 individuals each month. With the help of some incredible partners in their community, they will continue this effort to provide fresh food for those in need.
Even with all their experience and resources, nothing could have prepared them for the dramatic changes they are now facing due to COVID- 19. Since the pandemic began, One Heart has seen a 567% increase in demand for food as many families struggle to make ends meet.
The nonprofit’s budget has skyrocketed, and the organization is now spending close to $15,000 a month on food alone. But, against all odds, they have made it happen. One Heart has provided enough food to make 1,000,000 meals since March 14, and they’re not stopping anytime soon.
