Two of our art boxes have received facelifts, thanks to artists Brett Tachi and Siege Fajardo.

Brett, who painted the utility cabinet at the corner of Mills and Marks, wanted to play with the concept of a city that is alive — literally and figuratively. Her design reflects that idea with an Orlando cityscape where some of the buildings even have eyes. The vivid sunset sky is reminiscent of the beautiful sunsets we see so often in Orlando. Siege painted the art box at the corner of Mills and Lake Highland in 2011. When the City of Orlando replaced it with a new utility cabinet, Siege, who now lives in Miami, came back to Orlando to repaint the box in his distinctive style. While here, he also painted a mural on the side of Chi-Kin Korean Fried, 813 N. Mills Ave. Follow Siege at instagram.com/siegeyourday.

Mills 50 welcomes another new business to the neighborhood. Matcha House Tea & Creamery, 811 N. Mills Ave., is a dessert shop featuring soft-serve ice cream and sundaes as well as hot and cold lattes and tea. Matcha House is brought to us by the creator and owner of Chi-Kin Korean Fried and Poke Hana.

Mills 50 recognized Too Much Sauce, located in Mills Park, as our July Business of the Month. Owner Evan Dimov closed the restaurant the first week of July so all of his employees could get tested after they came in direct contact with someone who tested positive for COVID- 19. Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings recognized Too Much Sauce “for doing the right thing,” along with The Hammered Lamb, Enzian Theater and Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream.

Again this year, Mills 50 and several other main street districts are sponsoring “Sip and Savor Weeks” Monday, August 17 – Sunday, August 30. “Sip and Savor” weeks celebrate the creative and eclectic cuisine and cocktails that can only be found in our local neighborhoods. Restaurants offer a select prix fixe menu, and bars will be offering drink specials at prices that are better than happy hour prices! Participating restaurants and bars can be found at sipandsavorotown.com.
