MANISTIQUE – Back in April, Manistique Area Little League suspended all activity until further notice due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
According to news release from the organization, the amount of uncertainty surrounding the initial suspension guaranteed the season would not look like a traditional season.
On May 15, due to the ongoing pandemic and the impact it has had on the community, the league made the difficult decision to cancel its 2020 season.
The board considered and discussed many factors to make the decision: player, family, and spectator safety; the extension of the ‘Stay Home, Stay Safe’ order; anticipated low participation numbers; implementation of social distancing and equipment sanitizing guidelines; need for additional volunteers; and the amount of supervision it would take to play a safe season.
Commenting on their decision, Tori Irving, League president stated “We know this is not the news you were hoping to hear. We know many of you were holding out for Little League to be the one ‘normal’ thing to happen this summer. We are saddened that we can’t provide this for your families – but we feel it is the best decision for the time being.”
For those families that have already registered, a full refund will be issued. Those with questions about the board’s decision or anything else about Manistique Little League, may contact Irving at (906) 458-1210.
